Do everything without complaining or arguing. Philippians 2:14
In my Christian high school, I was part of a small music group ensemble, and one of the silly songs we sang was “The Grumble Song.” I found the lyrics online, but the composer’s name was missing.
The Grumble Song
In country, town, or city some people can be found
who spend their lives in grumbling at everything around.
Oh yes, they always grumble no matter what we say.
For these are chronic grumblers, and they grumble night and day.
Oh, they, grumble on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
Grumble on Thursday, too.
Grumble on Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Grumble the whole week through.
They grumble at their husbands, they grumble at their wives,
They grumble at their children. It is their way of life.
They grumble at their parents. They grumble at their school.
They grumble at their teacher, and they grumble at the rules.
I’ve been reading through the Old Testament, and another lesson that jumps out at me is the constant grumbling and complaining of the people of Israel to Moses as they traveled to the promised land. You’d think they’d learn to trust in God as they witnessed miracle after miracle. But no! They constantly whined to Moses and Aaron for needs they were lacking. You can definitely see how God hates grumbling. Many of them died on the spot. Plus, the first generation was prohibited from entering the promised land.
Wow! It made me stop and think about my week. How much had I grumbled? I’m sure you live with grumblers just as I do. Instead of grumbling, I’m trying to promote thankfulness in my family. To my kids I say, “Instead of grumbling about your veggies, why don’t you thank God you have food?”
Dear Heavenly Father,
Please forgive me for the times when I grumble and complain.
Thank you for providing for all my needs in Your perfect time.
Help me to promote a thankful heart within my family.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Instead of grumbling we should give praise to the Lord for all the blessings He has bestowed upon us.
